The Equine Sales Process For Teen Riders
The Equine Sales Process For Teen Riders
The equestrian sales process is complicated for anyone, let alone for a teen rider. This is a four-step guide for teens looking to take a leading role in finding their next horse. It is essential for young riders to handle most of the sales processes alongside their parents and trainers. Being involved in this process opens the door to connections within the industry and allows the rider to take more responsibility and initiative in their future in the sport.
When I first began the search for a top-level competition horse, I had no idea what I was walking into. The process was overwhelming and filled with unfamiliar terms, high-stake decisions, and a fast-paced sales environment I had never experienced before. I was determined to take an active and leading role every step of the way. I didn’t want someone else to make the decision for me. Throughout the journey, I committed myself to learning everything I could about the buying process, from pre-purchase exams to evaluating movement and temperament. In doing so, I not only gained a deeper understanding of the equestrian world, but also built lasting connections with top-level riders, trainers, and professionals who were generous with their advice and insight. The experience taught me how to advocate for myself, trust my instincts, and make thoughtful, informed decisions.
